Women’s Swimming & Diving in the Lead After Day One of the Big Al Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Brown women's swimming & diving team is in first place after Day One of the Big Al Invitational at DeNunzio Pool on Friday. The Bears have 284 points while Villanova (210) and host Princeton (154) round out the top three.

A team of junior Maddie Salesky (San Rafael, Calif.), sophomore Jessie Blake-West (Belmont, Mass.), sophomore Marley Cross (Seattle, Wash.) and freshman Taylor Seaman (Brighton, Mich.) captured the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:31.41 to open the meet, just shy of the program mark of 1:31.33 set last season. The "B" Team also finished strong in fourth place with a time of 1:34.42.

Seaman later won the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.84. Brown had a strong showing in the event, with Cross (23.05) and Saleksy (23.27) finishing 3-4 while Blake-West (23.61) and senior Sarah Cronin (Westfield, N.J.) (23.75) finished in sixth and eighth, respectively. Freshman Tory Center (Madison, Wis.) was placed 11th with a time of 23.78 in the B-Final.

Junior Tatiana Prendella (Bernardsville, N.J.) barely out-touched classmate Jackie Karpowicz (Wakefield, R.I.) in the 500 freestyle, placing 3-4 with times of 4:53.13 and 4:53.14, respectively. Sophomores Amelia Gilchrist (Greensboro, N.C.) and Julia Armitage (Cleveland Heights, Ohio) also gained points in the A-Final with Gilchrist in sixth (4:55.76) and Armitage in seventh (4:56.58).

Freshman Han Nguyen (Los Gatos, Calif.) finished fifth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.45. Sophomore Sarah Welch (Beverly, Mass.) finished 11th overall in the B-Final with a time of 2:04.23 while Charlotte Rosenberg (Chicago, Ill.) came in 14th (2:05.46). 

The 400 medley relay team of Welch, senior Ally Donahue (Tampa, Fla.), Nguyen and Seaman closed out the night in fourth with a time of 3:44.39.

Brown is back in action tomorrow (Dec. 2) for day two of the Big Al Invitational, starting at 10:00 a.m.
