Women's Swimming and Diving Edged by Penn, 172-126

PHILADELPHIA – Despite claiming victories in six events, the Brown women's swimming and diving team was edged by Penn, 172-126 on Saturday at Sheerr Pool.

 

Briana Borgolini (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) continued her strong performances of late – claiming titles in both the 100-Yard (1:05.38) and 200-Yard (2:21.07) Breaststroke events.  The dual victories marked the second straight week that Borgolini swept the breaststroke events.

 

Junior Kate Dillione (Newtown, Pa.) and freshman Elly Vitek (Western Springs, Ill.) placed first and third, respectively, in the 200-Yard Freestyle.  Dillione clocked in at 1:52.21 while Vitek recorded a mark of 1:54.39 in the event.

 

In the 200-Yard Butterfly, Gina Matsumoto (Farmington Hills, Mich.) claimed the crown with a time of 2:04.05 while teammate Leigh Holmes (Alma, Mich.) finished third in the event.

 

Megan Viohl (Millersville, Md.) outlasted both Annie McCotter and Kristi Edleson of Penn with a mark of 5:02.89 in the 500-Yard Freestyle.

 

The Bears triumphed in the 400-Yard Freestyle relay (3:31.64) thanks to strong performances from Reia Tong (Bethesda, Md.), Dillione, Paige Gilley (Cupertino, Calif.), and Grace Hendee (Wilton, Conn.).  The "C" group of Catherine Pittman (Williamsburg, Va.), Holmes, Emma Wyke (Columbus, Ind.), and Vitek placed second in the event with a time of 3:39.76.

 

Brown will return to the Katherine Moran Coleman Aquatics Center next week as the play host to Bryant on Friday and Columbia on Saturday.
