SMITHFIELD, RHODE ISLAND – The Brown women's swimming and team (6-2, 2-1 Ivy League) earned a 96-90 victory over the Bryant Bulldogs in a non-league competition held at the Elizabeth and Malcom Chace Wellness Center on Thursday, January 24.
Three different Bears earned a victory over the course of the evening, beginning with Leigh Holmes (Alma, MI) who swam a time of 1:59.07 to grab the top spot in the 200 freestyle. Junior Hillary Mulvey (Bristol, RI) followed that up with a victory of her own in the 200 IM, touching the wall in a time of 2:12.27, more than three seconds ahead of her closest challenger. Senior Elizabeth Matthews (Makawao, HI) was also an event winner against the Bulldogs, just out-touching teammate Alexis Daswick (Scottsdale, AZ) in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.66.
Both of Brown's relays were triumphant against Bryant as well, as the Bears clinched their sixth win of the season when the team of Kate Dillione (Newtown, PA), Matthews, Paige Gilley (Cupertino, CA) and Reia Tong (Bethesda, MD) touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:36.24. In the opening 200 medley relay, the team of Kristin Jackson (Falmouth, ME), Tong, Maggie Jordan (Niskayuna, NY) and Emma Lamothe (Brimfield, MA) just edged the squad from Bryant with a time of 1:50.48.
The Bears will head to New York City on Saturday, January 26 for an Ivy League meet against the Columbia Lions, with the first race set to begin at 12:00pm.
