Princeton, NJ – The winners of the 2014 Collegiate Squash Association Awards were announced during the award ceremony at the Women's National Team Championships, which were held over the weekend at Princeton University. Brown head coach Stuart leGassick was presented with the prestigious Chaffee Award for sportsmanship and character.
The Chaffee Award is given annually to a coach whose team has demonstrated the qualities of sportsmanship, teamwork, character, and improvement. The 2014 Chaffee Award was presented to leGassick at the national tournament.
"Assistant coach Chris Sachvie and I are thrilled to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the team," said leGassick. "We have scholar-athletes in the truest meaning of the expression, who are wonderful ambassadors of Brown University, on and off the courts. This year's team is extremely hard-working, competitive and play in the spirit of the game."
leGassick, the Broadbent Family Head Coaching Chair for Squash Racquets at Brown, coached the Brown team to a third place finish at the Kurtz Cup, leading the Bears to an 11th place final national ranking.
A native of Aberdeen, Scotland, leGassick originally came to Brown as the first coach for the Men's Varsity team, starting the program in 1989, and assumed dual duties as Head Coach of the Men's and Women's teams in 1990.
