Providence, RI - Head Softball Coach DeeDee Enabenter-Omidiji has recently named Janet Maguire as her assistant softball coach for the 2008 season. Maguire comes to Brown from Bridgewater State College, where she was the head softball coach for seven seasons.
While at Bridgewater State, Maguire accumulated a 175-122-3 record (.588 percent) and an outstanding 86-12 record in conference play. She was the MASCAC Coach of the Year in 2006 and helped guide her team to seven MASCAC regular season championships. The Bridgewater Bears were five-time MASCAC Tournament Champs, and made five appearances to the NCAA Division III Softball Tournament.
Prior to her stint at Bridgewater, she coached for one year at the University of Massachusetts Boston as the Head Women's Soccer and Softball Coach. Maguire is a two-star master coach in the National Fastpitch Coaches College, has been a member of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association since 1994 and is also a member of the New England Intercollegiate Softball Coaches Association.
A graduate of Bridgewater State College, Maguire earned her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Physical Education. She played softball under then Head Coach Enabenter-Omidiji and helped her team to a second-place finish in the 1994 NCAA Division III World Series as a second baseman and team captain.
Maguire established and administered annual youth clinics for the RBI (Reviving Baseball and Softball in Inner Cities) program in Boston and is a Youth Ministry Assistant at St. Gerard Majella Church in Canton, MA where she resides.
