Bears Drop Two To Boston College, 4-3 and 6-3

The Brown softball team was edged out by Boston College in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Eagles 4-3 in ten innings. The Bears lost the second game by a score of 6-3 to bring their overall record to 3-23.

The teams were tied at three after three innings of the first contest, and held each other scoreless until Tekae Malandris hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the tenth to give the Eagles victory. Sophomore Lauren Wong (Mountain View, CA) started off the third inning with her first homerun of the season, while both Erin Durlesser (Santa Monica, CA) and Blair Smith (Independence, MO) had two hits apiece to lead the Bears at the plate. Freshman Melissa Brown (Moreno Valley, CA) pitched seven innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits. Ellie Blake (Downers Grove, IL) was tagged with the loss, however, as she gave up four hits and the winning run in two innings pitched.

Both Tami Parrott (Wantage, NJ) and Julia Iudicello (McLean, VA) hit 2-for-4 in the second game with one run and one RBI, with Parrott smacking two of her team-leading 12 doubles. The Eagles were led by Cara Blumfield, who was 2-for-3 at the plate with a homerun, one run and two RBI. Durlesser picked up the loss on the mound, her ninth of the season, after giving up five earned runs on ten hits in six innings pitched.

The Bears will take on the Pennsylvania Quakers in their next doubleheader, this Friday, April 13, at home. The first game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
