Roadrunners Shut Out Brown 8-0

Behind the stellar pitching of Paige Whitley, who allowed only four hits while striking out nine, the University of Texas at San Antonio shut out the Brown softball team by a score of 8-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears fall to 2-12 after dropping their eighth straight game, while the Roadrunners improve to 21-20.

Cara Howe (Missouri City, TX) led Brown at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double, and both Lauren Wong (Mountain View, CA) and Blair Smith (Independence, MO) had one hit for the Bears. Roadrunner shortstop Michelle McElyea led her team to victory by batting a perfect 3-for-3 with a single, a double, and a second inning grand slam. Whitley improved her season to 7-4 on the mound with the win, while freshman Bear Melissa Brown (Moreno Valley, CA) picked up her third loss of the year.

Brown will now head to Long Beach City College to face the University of California at Santa Barbara on Thursday afternoon.
