Brown Starts Off Season 0-2 Against Drexel

The Brown softball team opened its spring season on Saturday with a doubleheader against the Drexel Dragons in Philadelphia. The Bears dropped both games, by scores of 8-0 and 7-5, to begin 2001 with an 0-2 deficit.

The offense struggled in the first contest, as Erin Durlesser (Santa Monica, CA) picked up the only hit of the game for Brown. The Dragons’ sterling senior Lori Swanson was an ace on the mound, and her team did the rest with eight runs on six hits and no errors. Durlesser was tagged with the loss, giving up seven earned runs in four innings.

Game two provided much closer competition, as the Bears were edged out 7-5 in six innings, when the game was called for darkness. Tami Parrott (Wantage, NJ) led Brown at the plate, hitting 2-for-4 with two RBI. Lauren Wong (Mountain View, CA) also drove in two runs for the Bears and was 1-for-2 with two walks. Senior hurler Ellie Blake (Downers Grove, IL) allowed six earned runs on ten hits in the five innings she pitched.

Brown will take on the Villanova Wildcats tomorrow, Sunday, March 18, in a doubleheader in Philadelphia that starts at 12:00 noon.
