Brown Drops Two to Southwest TexasThe Brown softball team lost its sixth and seventh straight games yesterday, as the #23 Southwest Texas Bobcats allowed only one run in the doubleheader, reigning victorious with 9-1 and 9-0 wins. Brown's overall record falls to 2-11, while the Bobcats improve to 26-7.
In the first contest, the Bears had one run on four hits and four errors, compared to Southwest Texas' nine runs on nine hits and one error. Both Erin Durlesser (Santa Monica, CA) and Laura Leonetti (Fresno, TX) went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead the Brown offense, while Durlesser was also tagged with the loss on the mound, allowing four earned runs in three innings. Aleana Sutton (West Hartford, CT) threw the remaining 1.1 innings, giving up two hits and one earned run.
The Bears were shut out 9-0 in the second game, again getting only four hits compared to the Bobcats' ten. Melissa Brown (Moreno Valley, CA) and Katie Tone (North Reading, MA) were both 1-for-2, while Durlesser and Julia Iudicello (McLean, VA) picked up the other two hits. Senior Ellie Blake (Downers Grove, IL) was tagged with the loss, allowing five earned runs on seven hits, which brings her season record to 2-5.
The Bears face the University of Texas at San Antonio in their next doubleheader, scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start on March 27th.
