Bears Drop Two Straight At Corpus Christi Tournament
Despite Brown's shaky fourth inning against New Mexico in which the Lobos scored eight of their runs, the Bears played a very solid game and had one more hit than their opponent. Melissa Brown (Moreno Valley, CA) went 2 for 2 at the plate, while six other players had one hit apiece. Three different pitchers made an appearance on the mound for Brown, but starter Ellie Blake (Downers Grove, IL) picked up her second loss of the season after throwing for four innings.
On Saturday, the Bears' defense picked up five errors in the field as they dropped an 11-7 decision to Centenary College. Second basemen Julia Iudicello (McLean, VA) and left fielder Tami Parrott (Wantage, NJ) both led the Brown offense, as Iudicello was 2 for 4 with one RBI and Parrott was 3 for 4 with three RBI. Blair Smith (Independence, MO) also came up big at the plate, smacking a triple in the fourth inning and driving in two runs. Erin Durlesser (Santa Monica, CA) picked up her third loss on the mound this season, giving up seven earned runs and striking out three.
Brown plays its last game of the tournament tomorrow, March 25, before heading to Southwest Texas on Monday.
