The Friars jumped out on top in the first game of the afternoon, scoring two runs in the bottom of the opening inning. The scores came when Cori Van Dusen hit a homerun, bringing in Jackie Karsnia. Providence extended its lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the 5th.
Brown answered with a run of its own in the top of the 6th, when Laura Leonetti (Fresno, TX) scored on a error by Friar 3rd baseman. In the top of the 7th, the Bears would make the score 3-2.With Erin Durlesser (Santa Monica, CA) on 1st, Leonetti sent a triple up the middle, scoring Durlesser. The Bears were unable to come up with the game-tying run, and the Friars took the 3-2 decision.
Marissa Berkes (El Segundo, CA) pitched all six innings, and gave up four hits, 3 runs, while striking out one batter.
Brown struck first, scoring in the top of the 1st. Laura Leonetti scored on a error by the 3rd baseman to put the Bears up 1-0. The Friars would score one run in the bottom of the 1st.
Entering the bottom of the fifth, and with the scored tied at 1-1, the Friars would score five unanswered runs in the inning, taking a 6-1 lead and eventual win.
Brown (14-22, 6-8) returns to action on Thursday May 2 for the final game of the regular season, as the Bears will host the University of Pittsburgh at Providence, RI, beginning at 3:00pm.
