April 27, 2002
After falling behind 3-0 in the bottom of the 1st inning, the Bears battled back to take a 5-4 lead in the top of the 6th. Brown's first run came in the bottom of the 5th, with the remaining four coming in the 6th.
In the 5th, freshman Uchenna Omokaro (Hercules, CA) scored on an error by Bulldog 2nd baseman. In the 6th, Brown scored four runs with Laura Leonetti (Fresno, TX) recording a double to lead off the inning. Julia Iudicello (McLean, VA) then drove in Lauren Wong (Mountain View, CA). Omokaro then hit a two-run single to cap a four-run inning.
Laura Leonetti and Lauren Wong each went 2 for 4 in that game. Erin Durlesser (Santa Monica, CA) pitched a complete game for the Bears, giving up seven hits and four runs. She struck out three batters.
Freshman Marissa Berkes (El Segundo, CA) came up big in the second game, as the rookie allowed only two hits on 26 batters faced.
Brown got the scoring going in the top of the sixth as junior Cara Howe (Missouri City, TX) homered to left field to drive in Julia Iudicello, making the score 1-0. With sophomore Melissa Brown (Moreno Valley, CA) on second, freshman Candace Toth (Woodinville, WA) sent a single up the middle, to bring in Brown.
Brown will complete the 2002 season this week, as Tuesday the Bears will take on Providence College at 3:00pm at Providence and then Thursday host the University of Pittsburgh, beginning at 3:00pm.
