Softball Bounces Back With 6-1 Win Over Dartmouth After 4-3 Loss In Game One

Hanover, NH - The Brown softball team split a doubleheader with Dartmouth on Friday Apr. 18 in Hanover, NH. The Big Green edged out the Bears in game one 4-3 in eight innings but Brown bounced back to take game two 6-1.
Sophomore Marissa Berkes (El Segundo, CA) recorded the win in game two, pitching a complete game. Berkes struckout six and walked none.
Brown took a 2-1 lead in the sixth, scoring two runs and added four runs in the final inning to seal the victory.
Four Bears recorded multiple hits as the team totaled ten in the game. Sophomore Uchenna Omokaro (Hercules, CA), junior Laura Leonetti (Fresno, TX) and freshmen Jaimie Wirkowski (Edison, NJ)and Rachel Flietell (Nutley, NJ) all had two hits in the night cap. Brown led the way with two RBI while Leonetti had a triple, a run scored and a RBI.
Omokaro suffered the loss on the mound in game one. Three of Dartmouth's four runs came unearned as Omokaro struck out a season-high eight batters and allowed just four hits.
The Bears tied the game 3-3 in the top of the seventh when junior Melissa Brown (Moreno Valley, CA) brought in Fleitell on a sacrifice fly, sending the game into extra innings. Fleitell had advanced to third when Berkes doubled to leftfield
Dartmouth capitalized on a lead-off double by Carly Haggard and single by Alicia Petryk in the bottom of the eighth to take the 4-3 win.
The Bears continue action tomorrow, Apr. 19 at Harvard beginning at 1 p.m.
