Hanover, New Hampshire - The Brown softball team had leads in both games of a doubleheader against Dartmouth, but couldn't hold on, dropping both games to the Big Green, 3-1 and 2-1. Ths loss drops the defending Ivy League Champion Bears' to 4-9 overall, 0-4 in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth upped its record to 6-12 overall and 3-1 in Ivy play.
Junior Rachel Fleitell gave Brown an early 1-0 advantage in the first game, leading off the game with a home run. Brown's lead held up until the second inning when the Big Green scored three unearned runs off Bears' senior pitcher Uchenna Omokaro. The Bears registered four hits in the game, with freshman catcher Amy Baxter getting two hits in three at-bats.
In the nightcap, Brown struck first, taking a 1-0 lead in the sixth inning. Junior Marissa Berkes opened the sixth inning with a single and advanced to third base on two ground-outs. She scored the first run of the game on a passed ball.
Meanwhile, Berkes was pitching a brilliant game, holding the Big Green to three hits through the first six innings. Two costly errors by the Bears in the bottom of the seventh allowed the Big Green to score two runs and claim the victory.
