Cambridge, MA - The Bears (4-9-1, 2-0) opened up their Ivy League season this year dropping to the Crimson 3-1 in game one and two. Sophomore Courtney Jenkins (Piedmont, CA) went 1-3, in game two hitting a double down the left field line and later scored on a single from classmate Liz Anderson (Oak Hill, VA) to put the Bears ahead by a run early in game two.
In game one, the Bears were only able to record two hits as the Crimson hurler shut down Brown's bats in her two hit victory. The Bears sole run came in the top of the third inning when junior Rachel Fleitell (Nutley, NJ) hit a two out double to right center field. Fleitell crossed the plate on a Crimson error to cut Harvard's lead 2-1. The Crimson later tacked on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead 3-1. Senior Uchenna Omokaro (Hercules, CA) recorded the loss sacrificing three runs on seven hits in six innings and fanned eight batters.
In game two the Bears jumped out to an early one run lead in the top of the second inning. Jenkins recorded the Bear's only run when she was brought in on Anderson's single for the early lead. But, that would be it for Brown, as Harvard scored three runs in the bottom of the third to go up for good. Senior Marissa Berkes (El Segundo, CA) pitched six innings recording three strike outs, giving up three runs on six hits in the loss.
The Bears will return to action tomorrow Sunday, April 10th, when they travel to Hanover, NH to take on the Big Green at 12:00 PM in an Ivy League doubleheader match-up.
