Providence, RI - Despite losing 5-1 to the Cornell Big Red (21-7, 3-1Ivy) in the first game of the doubleheader on Sunday afternoon, the Bears didn't back down and defeated Cornell 4-3 in game two.
In game one, Cornell took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. With one out on the Big Red, Brown's Kristen Schindler (2-3) walked Elise Menaker. With Menaker on first, Jenna Campagnolo smashed one over Brown left fielder, sophomore Kaitlyn Laabs' (Redlands, CA) head, and continued to sail over the fence for a homerun.
Just one inning later, Cornell's Samantha Hare singled to right field to bring in Sarah Ruben who had got on base from a double. Down 3-0, the Bears scored its first and only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, as freshman Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) singled, and then stole second. Senior Liz Anderson (Oak Hill, VA) grounded out to second, but advanced Asay to third. Then, freshman Brittany Lavine (Peoria, AZ) singled to left field to bring in Asay and put the Bears on the scoreboard.
Cornell's Alyson Intihar chalked up another homerun for the Big Red as she launched one over the left field fence, to bring home Ashley Wolf.

Then, Lavine sent one over the center fielder's head for a double, and scored Laabs to put the Bears ahead, 1-0.
Brown got hot in the sixth, as Browne led off with a hard single to the pitcher, and then quickly stole second base. Lavine's sacrifice bunt moved Browne to third, and junior Amy Baxter (Hollister, CA) singled to centerfield to bring in Brown's second run.
Freshman Whitney Lewis (Irvine, CA) walked, and Asay doubled, scoring both Lewis and Baxter, but was thrown out trying to advance to third. The Bears jumped ahead, 4-0.
But just as quickly as the Bears built their lead, it was soon taken away when Cornell got up to bat. Meghan Risica doubled down the left field line, and then advanced on a wild pitch thrown by freshman Jessica Iwasaki (Cupertino, CA). After a strikeout, Hare singled to right field to bring in Cornell's first run of the game.
Cornell's Ashley Wolf singled, and Intihar singled to center field to bring in two Big Red runners, cutting their deficit to 4-3. With two outs and the tying run on first, Elise Menaker hit a hard grounder to Iwasaki for the out, ending the game in the Brown's favor, 4-3.
