The Brown softball team dropped two games to the University of Virginia, 7-5 and 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon.
In game one, the Bears struck in the first inning, scoring two runs on a double by sophomore Jaimie Wirkowski.
However, the Cavaliers answered back with a seven run attack in the bottom of the inning to take a 7-2 lead.
Brown rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded freshman Courtney Jenkins hit a single through the left side to score one run and senior Melisssa Brown doubled to left on the next pitch to score two more runs for the Bears. However, they were unable to regain the lead and Virginia came away with a 7-5 victory.
In game two, the game remained scoreless until the Cavaliers struck for four runs in the third. They tacked on five more runs in the bottom of the fourth to capture the 9-0 win in five innings.
Melissa Brown led the Bears with a 4-5 performance on the day.
The Bears will return to action on Friday, April 2 in a doubleheader with the University of Maryland at 5:00 p.m.
