The Brown softball team dropped a tough game to Albany, 2-1, in the semifinal game of the Highlander Softball Classic in Radford, Va. The Bears are now 6-7 on the season.
The Bears and the Great Danes were in a pitchers duel until Brown struck first in the fifth inning. Freshman Courtney Jenkins led off the inning with a single. Senior Barbara Maloni went into pinch run and was moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by senior Melissa Brown. With two outs, freshman Andrea Miranda put Brown on-top, 1-0, with a single to right.
However, Albany came back to rally in the bottom of the inning to take a 2-1 lead that they would not relinquish.
On the mound, junior Marissa Berkes suffered the loss, giving up two runs on five hits.
The Bears will return to action, Monday, March 29 at 2:00 p.m. when they play Radford in a double header.
