Jacksonville, FL - The Brown softball team (4-8) dropped a doubleheader against the University of Jacksonville (15-21) on Tuesday evening at the JU Softball Complex. The Bears fell 11-1 in game one, and then lost a 3-2 eight-inning heartbreaker in the night cap.
Brown tallied just two hits during its first loss to the Dolphins tonight, as freshman catcher Sandra Mastrangelo (White Plains, NY) recorded its first with a single in the first inning. But Jacksonville's Ashley Iveson shut down Brown's next three batters, as the Dolphins lit up for four runs to take a 4-0 lead heading into the second inning.
Jacksonville had another big inning in the second, scoring three more runs to extend its lead to 7-0. Sophomore Danielle Comissiong (St. Thomas, VI) posted Brown's other hit and scored its only run of the game in the third inning after hitting a solo homerun to decrease its deficit to 7-1. Jacksonville put up another four-run inning in the fourth to go ahead 11-1 and put the game out of reach as the game ended after five innings.

After three hitless and scoreless innings, Jacksonville broke the silence and loaded the bases in the bottom of the third. But junior Jessica Iwasaki (Cupertino, CA) got the Bears out of the inning unscathed, and Brown went on to tally the first run of the game in the top of the fourth. Mastrangelo sparked the offense with a double to right center and a single by Kate Strobel (Denver, CO) scored Mastrangelo to take a 1-0 lead.
Jackie Giovanniello's (Floral Park, NY) double to left center in the top of the seventh inning scored Trish Melvin (Wexford, PA) who singled up the middle to extend its lead to 2-0. But the Dolphins came firing back in the bottom of the seventh to tie the ballgame up at 2-2 and send it into extra innings.
The Bears were held scoreless in the top of the eighth and Jacksonville capitalized on that. With the bases loaded, the Dolphins loaded the bases and earned its winning run when Chaddock walked in a run to end the game.
