Softball Tops Iona 9-3 At George Mason Tournament

Fairfax, VA - The Brown softball team came away with a 9-3 victory over Iona in the opening day of the George Mason Tournament Friday afternoon. The Bears, who lost to Iona 3-1 on Mar. 9 at the College of Charleston Tournament, recorded ten hits in the win and are now 2-5 overall.

The teams nine runs marks its highest offensive output of the season. Leading the way for Brown was freshman Jamie Wirkowski (Edison, NJ) with four RBI. Wirkowski went 3-4 on the day, including a home run.

Sophomore Uchenna Omokaro (Hercules, CA), the Ivy League's first Pitcher of the Week for the 2003 season, picked up her second win of the season. Omokaro stuck out six and allowed three hits and two runs.

Brown continues action at the George Mason Tournament tomorrow, Saturday Mar. 22 against St. Francis at 9:00 a.m. and will face Stony Brook at 1:00 p.m.
