Softball Splits Doubleheader at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Brown softball team split a doubleheader at Drexel on Saturday afternoon, falling 1-0 to the Dragons in game one before coming back with a 5-4 victory in game two.

In the first game, Drexel scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the first inning and it was enough to hold up for the victory.

Junior pitcher Erin Durlesser (Santa Monica, CA) threw six strong innings for the Bears, giving up one run on six hits while striking out seven.

Senior Julia Iudicello (McLean, VA) was 2 for 3 at the plate with two stolen bases for Brown (3-1).

In game two, the Bears jumped out to an early 4-0 lead by putting four runs up on the board in the top of the first inning.

Sophomore Laura Leonetti (Fresno, TX) led the offensive charge as she was 3 for 4 with a double and a homerun. Junior Cara Howe (Missouri City, TX) also added two RBIs for the Bears. Junior Lauren Wong (Mountain View, CA) and sophomore Angela Galt (Silver Spring, MD) each had one RBI apiece.

Freshman pitcher Laura Decker (Waco, TX) picked up the victory for the Bears, going two and two thirds innings without allowing a hit.

The Bears return to action for a doubleheader at Villanova on March 17 at noon.
