Softball Splits Doubleheader With Drexel

Philadelphia, PA - The Brown softball team split a doubleheader match with Drexel University on Saturday in Philadelphia to claim its first victory of the young season. Drexel took the first game 1-0 but the Bears bounced back to take a 1-0 decision in the second game. Freshman Jamie Wirkowski (Edison, NJ) doubled to center field in the top of the sixth inning and scored on an RBI ground out by sophomore Marissa Berkes (El Segundo, CA).

In game one, Berkes got the start for the Bears and recorded six strikeouts in the loss. Drexel's Debbie Botke recorded the game-winning RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, giving the Dragons the 1-0 win.

In game two, sophomore Uchenna Omokaro (Hercules, CA) was on the mound for Brown and pitched a complete game, allowing just two hits and striking out seven. She also went 1-4 from the batter's box with a single in the fifth inning. Both senior Erin Durlesser (Santa Monica, CA) and junior Melissa Brown (Moreno Valley, CA) recorded a double in the game.

Brown continues action on Friday Mar. 21 at the George Mason Tournament where it will face Iona at 4 p.m.
