Baltimore, MD - During the first day of the UMBC Dawg Pound Tournament, the Brown softball squad (2-3) defeated Canisius College, 8-2, on Friday. Bruno's second game against UMBC was postponed due to rain, and is scheduled to take place this afternoon.
Although the Golden Griffins took a 1-0 lead after Katie Miranto hit an RBI-double, Brown answered right back as junior Kelsey Wilson (Monterey, CA), senior Linnea Anderson (El Dorado Hills, CA) and freshman Kristie Chin (Katy, TX) each crossed the plate to put Brown ahead, 3-1 after the first inning.
While neither team scored in the second, Brown went on to score unanswered runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take an 8-1 lead. Canisius was able to score in the seventh with Ashley Bonetto's double that drove in a run.
Junior Michelle Moses (Cooper City, FL) picked up the win, pitching all seven innings. She gave up six hits, walked seven and struck out five batters.
Leading Brown's offense was Wilson, who went two-for-three and scored two runs and posted one RBI, and Chin who went two-for-two and scored two runs and one RBI. Also tallying RBI's was Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) with two, and Brittney Lavine(Peoria, AZ) and Lindsay Rice (Bradford, RI) each with one.
