Bears Win Two in Day One of Tourney
March 3, 2007
Summerville, SC - Brown was the lone team to go undefeated on day one of the 2007 Charleston Southern Softball Invitational at Gahagan Park. The Bears defeated Bowling Green 4-3 at 5:00 p.m. and then went on to defeat host, Charleston Southern, 3-1, at 7:00 p.m.
Against Charleston Southern, Brown scored its first run in the bottom of the second on a two-run single by freshman Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC). The Lady Bucs answered back by hitting a triple down the right field line, scoring Megan Hall who was on first base. CSU's Jennifer Brooks hit a similar ball down the line, legging out a triple to lead off the inning. But Brown junior catcher Amy Baxter (Hollister, CA) blocked the plate on a CSU squeeze attempt, keeping Jennifer Brooks from scoring.
Although CSU's Jennifer Pardu saved two runs in the bottom of the fifth, tracking down a long fly ball, falling over the fence, but holding on to rob Brown of a homer, Bears' sophomore Kelsey Wilson hit a homerun in the sixth, putting Brown ahead, 3-1.
The Bears are back in action at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday against the University of Hartford and then 12:15 p.m. against Campbell University. On Sunday, they will take on Providence College at 10:00 a.m. and then St. Bonaventure at 12:15 p.m.
