Softball Collects 12 NFCA Scholar-Athlete Honorees for 2016-17

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Brown University softball totaled 12 NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honorees for the 2016-17 academic year, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association announced on Tuesday.

To be eligible for NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors, student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.

The group includes all six members of the Bears Class of 2017 – Christina Andrews (Southlake, Texas), Gina Chieffallo (Eynon, Pa.), Lauren Hanna (Milford, Mass.), Leah Nakashima (San Jose, Calif.), Julia Schoenewald (Jamison, Pa.), and Sarah Syrop (Kennesaw, Ga.).

All three of the members of Brown's Class of 2018 – Annie McGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.), Grayson Metzger (Severna Park, Md.), and Katie Orona (Pueblo, Colo.) – gained the plaudits as did Cat Seitz (Poway, Calif.) of the Class of 2019 as well as Rebecca Mandelbaum (Livingston, N.J.) and Emily Waters (Northridge, Calif.) from the Class of 2020. 

As a team, the Bears earned NFCA All-Academic Team accolades and posted one of the nation's top-20 team GPAs.
