Softball Captures Four All-Ivy Selections for Third Straight Year

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown University softball junior Annie McGregor has earned First Team All-Ivy, senior Christina Andrews has gained Second Team All-Ivy, and senior Julia Schoenewald and sophomore Meghan Wimmer have garnered Honorable Mention All-Ivy, the Ivy League announced on Thursday.

The Bears collected four All-Ivy honorees for the third straight season while McGregor (Carlsbad, Calif.) also garnered Third Team NFCA All-Northeast Region honors. Andrews (Southlake, Texas) captured All-Ivy accolades for the third time in her career while McGregor, Schoenewald (Jamison, Pa.), and Wimmer (Boothwyn, Pa.) all won All-Ivy laurels for the first time.

McGregor led the team in home runs (nine), RBIs (33), hits (49), doubles (10), triples (three), batting average (.348), and slugging percentage (.652) while ranking second on the team in runs (30) and on-base percentage (.391). Her nine home runs tied for the fourth-most in a single season at Brown and helped the Bears set a team record for homers in a season with 32 blasts.

Now a three-time All-Ivy pick, Andrews gained Second Team All-Ivy as a freshman, junior, and senior. She served the Bears as a captain in 2017 and tied for the team lead with 10 doubles. Andrews ranked third on the team in runs (26), hits (41), and home runs (five) while recording a .318 batting average, .384 on-base percentage, and .543 slugging percentage.

Schoenewald, a three-year captain for the Bears, earned the program's Best Defensive Player Award in 2017 as the team's field general at catcher. She tallied a .250 batting average, 23 hits, five doubles, two triples, two home runs, 15 RBIs, and 12 runs while posting a .355 on-base percentage and .413 slugging percentage.

Wimmer emerged as an accomplished pitcher and hitter in 2017 after missing her rookie season due to injury. She hit .389 with 14 hits, four runs, six doubles, seven RBIs, and a home run while posting a .480 batting average with 12 hits, six doubles, a homer, .840 slugging percentage, and .483 on-base percentage in Ivy play. In the circle, Wimmer tallied a 4.31 ERA, 6-11 record, eight complete games, and 41 strikeouts over 105.2 innings.
