Janet Leung to Represent Team Canada at 2013 ISF Women's Junior World Championships
Rising sophomore Janet Leung (Mississauga, Ontario), a standout member of the Brown softball team, will begin competition today in the 10th International Softball Federation Women’s Junior World Championships after being selected to play shortstop for Team Canada. Seventeen players made the country’s roster, announced on June 24, and the squad was chosen through a process that included regional evaluation camps, followed by a weeklong selection camp.

Spring Academic All-Ivy Announced
The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2013 spring Academic All-Ivy, with 10 Brown student-athletes earning recognition. The five men and five women were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

Brown Athletics Announces 2013 Award Winners at Fifth Annual Senior Luncheon
The Fifth Annual Brown Athletics Senior Celebration and Awards Luncheon was held at Andrews Dining Hall on Monday, May 20, 2013. Over 275 student-athletes, coaches, staff and distinguished guests were in attendance at the banquet to celebrate another year of success in competition, in the classroom and in the community. President Christina Paxson and Director of Athletics Jack Hayes each took the opportunity to address the room and acknowledge the accomplishments and contributions of the class of 2013.

Chavez, Leung and Thompson Earn All-Ivy Honors
Three members of the Brown softball team (10-28, 4-16 Ivy League) have been named to the 2013 All-Ivy Softball Team in a vote by the Ivy League’s eight head coaches. Senior co-captain Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA), sophomore Trista Chavez (San Pedro, CA) and freshman Janet Leung (Mississauga, Ontario) were all selected to the Honorable Mention squad.

Stephanie Thompson Named Co-Ivy League Player of the Week
Senior co-captain Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) has been named co-Ivy League Player of the Week for the competition period ending on April 28, 2013. Thompson, who competed in her final collegiate games for the Bears this past weekend, proved to be one of the driving forces in Brown’s two wins over Yale in its last games of the 2013 season.

Brown Splits with Yale in Final Games of the 2013 Season
The Brown softball team (10-28, 4-16 Ivy League) concluded its 2013 season on Saturday afternoon on the softball field in the Erickson Athletic Complex with a doubleheader against Yale (10-36, 5-15 Ivy League). The Bears earned a hard-fought, 9-8 win over the Bulldogs in the first contest before falling 12-2 in the second.

The Brown softball team (9-27, 3-15 Ivy League) split a pair of games with Yale (9-35, 4-14 Ivy League) this afternoon on the DeWitt Family Field in New Haven, Connecticut. The Bears triumphed 8-1 in the first game of the day before falling 5-2 in the second contest.

Despite generating 11 hits over the course of the afternoon, the Brown softball team (8-26, 2-14 Ivy League) dropped an 8-3 decision to the Bryant Bulldogs on the softball field in the Erickson Athletic Complex today in its final non-conference game of the 2013 season.

The Bears dropped both games to the home team, falling 8-0 in six innings in the first match-up and 5-0 in the second contest.

The Brown women’s softball team (6-8) split a pair of games on the final day of the Sean Savage Epilepsy Awareness Tournament hosted by Delaware State at The Hornets’ Nest, the university’s softball complex. The Bears played to a 10-4 win over the Lafayette Leopards (4-11) in their first contest of the day before falling to the Colgate Raiders (5-15), 4-3. In five games this weekend, the Bears were able to take three wins home to Providence, including two over the Leopards.

Sarah Ropiak Named Ivy League Pitcher of the Week
Freshman pitcher Sarah Ropiak (Acton, MA) earned Ivy League Pitcher of the Week honors after spending an impressive weekend on the mound for the Bears. Ropiak showed plenty of poise pitching in three tight games, going 2-0 with a save and a 1.40 ERA in three appearances at the Towson Classic.

Brown Softball Opens Season with Colorado State Tournament
The Brown softball team will open its 2013 season at the three-day Colorado State Tournament in Fort Collins, Colorado this weekend. The Bears will face the University of Nebraska-Omaha in their first game on March 1st at 11:15 am MST, followed by an afternoon game against the host, Colorado State, at 3:45 pm MST. The following day, Brown will challenge the University of Washington at 9:00 am MST and Bradley at 1:30 pm MST. The Bears will round off the tournament with a 9:00 am MST game versus Nebraska-Omaha on March 3rd.
