UC Riverside Edges Brown, 3-1

Riverside, CA- The Brown University softball team (3-10) fell 3-1 to host UC Riverside (13-15) on Saturday afternoon at Amy S. Harrison Field.   The Bears combined for six hits, as Stephanie Thompson led the offense going 2-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI. 

The Bears gained a 1-0 lead over the Highlanders in the top of the first inning when Thompson hit a solo homerun to left field.  But the Highlanders tallied a run in both the second and the third to take a 2-1 lead heading into the final four innings.

UC Riverside's Casey Suda (2-1) shut down the Bears at the plate earning the win on the mound.  She pitched all seven innings and gave up just one run on six hits and struck out two. 

Jessica Cherness (3-3) was handed the loss for the Bears, giving up three runs on nine hits while striking out six Highlanders. 

Trista Chavez went 1-for-2 for the Bears, while Kelsey Hom, Avery Silverstein and Kelsey Williams each went 1-for-3.

 The Bears will now play Colorado State today at 11 a.m.
