Providence, RI- Brown University Softball Coach Dee Dee Enabenter-Omidiji has announced that senior Kate Strobel and juniors Erika Mueller, Avery Silverstein, Stephanie Thompson and Aly Caplan will serve as team captains for the 2011-12 season.
Strobel, a First Team All-Ivy honoree, started in all 37 of Brown's games and batted a .383 with nine homeruns and 27 RBI. She led the team in walks with 17, and ranked second on the team in hits (41), homeruns, and RBI. All nine of her homers came in Ivy League play to lead the league, and also during the Ivy season she slugged .860, the third highest mark for the year, while also adding 21 RBI.
Thompson earned Second Team All-Ivy honors and was a 2011 Second Team Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Northeast Region Team selection after leading the nation with a .504 batting average. Her .558 on base percentage ranked 12th in the nation and she led the Ivy League with 13 homeruns and led the Bears in nearly every offensive category including hits (58), doubles (11), and RBI (31). Thompson started in all 37 games.
Mueller started and played in just three games before suffering a season-ending injury. However, in 2010 she played and started in all 42 contests at second base and combined for 15 hits, 13 runs and two RBI. Silverstein started in all 37 games in left field for Bruno and tallied 14 hits, six runs, three doubles and four RBI this past season.
Caplan started in all 37 games for the Bears in right field and posted 27 hits, seven runs and 16 RBI. Caplan notched one homerun this season, a three-run homer against Rutgers on March 5, and also tallied one double, five walks and featured a .976 fielding percentage.
