Four Bears Earn UMBC Spring Classic All-Tournament Team Honors
Providence, RI-Freshmen Jen Kries (Mission Viejo, CA) and Kristi Munoz (La Verne, CA), as well as sophomore Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) and junior Kate Strobel (Denver, CO) earned All-Tournament Team honors after outstanding performances for the Brown University softball team during the UMBC Spring Classic this past weekend. The Bears finished 1-3 on the weekend with its lone win coming in a nine-inning game against St. Francis (4-3). Brown's three losses came against Niagara (8-4), Morgan State (5-4) and UMBC (9-8) in 10 innings.
Munoz led the Bears this weekend batting .625 at the plate. She started in three of our games and was 5-for-8 with two homeruns, four RBI and three walks. Thompson was next batting .600 starting in all four games for Brown at third base. She was 9-for-15 at the plate and tallied five runs score, two RBI and hit two homeruns. Strobel was .571 at the plate and started in all four contests for the Bears at first base. She was 8-for-14 with three doubles, two RBI and three walks. Kries went .500 at the plate and started in all four games at second base. She was 7-for-14 on offense and tallied three runs scored, three RBI, walked once and stole four bases.
The Bears will now travel across town to challenge Providence College on Thursday, March 24 in a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m. Ivy League competition will then begin on Friday, April 1 against Princeton at 2:00 p.m.
