Softball Captains Announced for 2011-12 Season
Providence, RI- Brown University Softball Coach Dee Dee Enabenter-Omidiji has announced that senior Kate Strobel and juniors Erika Mueller, Avery Silverstein, Stephanie Thompson and Aly Caplan will serve as team captains for the 2011-12 season.

Providence, RI- In a recent announcement made by the Ivy League, junior first baseman Kate Strobel (Denver, CO) earned First Team All-Ivy honors while sophomore third baseman Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) received Second Team All-Ivy honors.

Chin Named to Capital One Academic All-District Team
The 2011 Capital One Academic All-District softball teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), have been released to recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for the their combined performance on the field and in the classroom. Senior pitcher Kristie Chin (Katy, Texas) was a second team selection for District I.

Bears End 2011 Season with Victories over Yale
Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team and lone senior Kristie Chin ended the 2011 season with two victories over Yale University this afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex. The Bears defeated the Bulldogs 2-0 in game one, and followed it up with a 5-4 win in game two to finish the year 14-22-1 and 8-12 in the Ivy League. The losses for Yale moved the Bulldogs to 17-25 overall and an 8-12 mark in the league as well.

Yale Takes Two From Bears; 4-2 & 7-5
New Haven, CT- In the final weekend of softball, the Yale University softball team posted two wins, 4-2 and 7-5, over Brown on Friday afternoon at Dewitt Family Field. Sophomore Stephanie Thompson led the offense today going 5-for-7 with four doubles, two runs scored and one RBI, while junior Kate Strobel went 2-for-6 with two runs scored with five RBI and two homeruns.

Dartmouth Topples Brown; 8-0 & 20-3
Hanover, NH- The Brown University softball team dropped two games this afternoon to North Division opponent Dartmouth College at Sachem Field. The Big Green cruised to an 8-0 six inning victory in game one before scoring a school-record 20 during a 20-3 win in five innings in the nightcap. The Big Green improved to 17-16 overall and 10-6 in the Ivy League, while the Bears dropped to 12-20-1 overall and 6-10 in the league.

Bears Split with Dartmouth College
Hanover, NH-Ten Bears scored runs to help lead the Brown softball team to a 13-0 victory over Dartmouth College in the first game of a doubleheader this afternoon in Hanover. But the Big Green were victorious in game two after scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up a 6-3 win over the Bears. The split moved the Bears to 11-17 and 6-8 in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth is now 15-16 and 8-6 in the league.

Brown Softball Splits with Rhode Island
Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team earned a split against cross-town rival Rhode Island this afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex. The Bears were victorious in game one, 8-4, but the Rams came back in game two for a big 18-9 five-inning win in game two. Sophomore Stephanie Thompson led the Bears at the plate going 5-for-7 (.714) with two homeruns, a double and six RBI.

Providence, RI- The Brown softball doubleheader versus the University of Rhode Island scheduled for Wednesday, April 20, has been rescheduled. The games will now be played on Thursday, April 21, at 3 p.m.

Harvard Earns Weekend Sweep over Bears
Providence, RI- The Harvard University softball picked up two more wins over Brown this afternoon defeating the Bears 7-3 in game one and then 11-1 in game two to earn a weekend sweep. The wins improve the Crimson to 26-13 overall and 10-2 in the Ivy League, while the Bears drop to 10-16-1 overall and 5-7 in league play.

Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader against Harvard, 8-0 and 9-0, this afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex. The losses dropped the Bears to 10-14-1 overall and 5-5 in the Ivy League, while the Crimson improved to 24-13 on the year and 8-2 in the league.

Bears Earn Sweep over Penn with 9-4 & 9-7 Victories
Providence, RI- Sophomore Alyssa Caplan went 6-for-7 from the plate with six RBI, a double and two runs scored, to help lead the Brown University softball team to a sweep over the visiting Penn Quakers this afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex. The Bears defeated the Quakers 9-4 in game one and followed it up with a 9-7 victory in the nightcap to improve to 10-12-1 overall and 5-3 in the Ivy League. The losses dropped Penn to 10-16 on the season and 2-6 in the Ancient Eight.

Bears Earn Split Against Columbia
Providence, RI- Freshman Danielle Palms hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead the Brown softball team to a 1-0 victory over Columbia in the first of two games on Friday afternoon. However, the Bears could not hang on for the sweep and fell 16-1 in the nightcap. The Bears are now 8-12-1 on the year and 3-3 in the Ivy League, while the Lions are 9-20 and 3-3 in the league.

Providence, RI- The Bryant University Bulldogs won its 11th straight game when it defeated the Brown softball team 2-1 this evening at the Erickson Athletic Complex at Brown University. Bryant improved to 16-11 on the year while the Bears dropped to 7-11-1.

Providence, RI- The Brown softball team will not play host to the University of Rhode Island today due to inclement weather in the New England area. The game, scheduled for 3 p.m. today, has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 13 at 3 p.m.

Bears Snap Cornell’s Seven-Game Win Streak; Earn Split vs. Big Red
Ithaca, NY- The Brown University softball team snapped Cornell’s seven-game win streak when it earned a split in a doubleheader this afternoon at Niemand Robison Field. The Bears fell 2-1 in a pitcher’s duel in game one, but came back and dominated the Big Red 9-3 in the nightcap. The win improved Brown to 7-10-1 (2-2 Ivy), while Cornell moved to 14-12-1 and 3-1 in the Ivy League.

Brown Softball Splits with Princeton in Ivy League Opener
Princeton, NJ- The Brown University softball team opened up its Ivy League season at Princeton University this afternoon at the Class of 1895 Field. The Tigers earned a 5-4 come-from-behind eight inning victory over the Bears in game one, but the Bears rallied in game two to earn an 8-4 win to improve to 6-9-1 overall, while the Tigers move to 9-13 on the year.

Brown Softball Falls to Friars in Doubleheader
Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team traveled across town for a doubleheader against Providence College this afternoon at Glay Field. The Friars earned two victories against the Bears today, the first 10-2 and the second 10-3, improving to 10-15 on the year while the Bears fall to 5-8-1. Avery Silverstein led the offense going 3-for-5 from the plate with a double and two RBI, while sophomore Stephanie Thompson went 3-of-7 with two homeruns.

Four Bears Earn UMBC Spring Classic All-Tournament Team Honors
Providence, RI-Freshmen Jen Kries (Mission Viejo, CA) and Kristi Munoz (La Verne, CA), as well as sophomore Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) and junior Kate Strobel (Denver, CO) earned All-Tournament Team honors after outstanding performances for the Brown University softball team during the UMBC Spring Classic this past weekend. The Bears finished 1-3 on the weekend with its lone win coming in a nine-inning game against St. Francis (4-3). Brown’s three losses came against Niagara (8-4), Morgan State (5-4) and UMBC (9-8) in 10 innings.

Providence, RI- Due to poor weather conditions predicted for tomorrow, the Brown University baseball/softball team's First Annual Home Runs for the Homeless Derby scheduled for tomorrow from 3:30-6:00 p.m. at Murray Stadium has been rescheduled for April 11.

Bears Drop Two in Final Day of UMBC Spring Classic
Baltimore, MD- In the final day of the UMBC Spring Classic, the Brown University softball team (5-6-1) dropped its final two games by one run each. Brown lost 5-4 to Morgan State in game one and followed it up with a 9-8 10-inning loss to host UMBC in game two. First baseman Kate Strobel led the Brown offense this afternoon batting .625 from the plate with five hits, including two doubles, one run scored and two RBI.

Brown Softball Earns Split During First Day of UMBC Spring Classic
Baltimore, MD- Freshman Kristi Munoz hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to defeat St. Francis (Pa.) 4-3 in the first game of the UMBC Spring Classic on Saturday afternoon. However, the Bears finished the day with a split as a five-run inning by Niagara in game-two led the Purple Eagles to an 8-4 win over the Bears in game two.

Stephanie Thompson Named Ivy League Player of the Week
Providence, RI-Brown University sophomore third baseman Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) had four outstanding performances to help lead the softball team to a 3-1 weekend at the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational. Thompson batted an impressive .769 for the weekend, had three homeruns, a double, and six runs scored to be named to the All-Tournament Team and the Ivy League's Player of the Week.

Sophomore third baseman Stephanie Thompson went 7-for-8 this afternoon, which included five runs scored, a double, three homeruns and seven RBI.

Baltimore, MD- After rainy conditions pushed back the first day of the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational, the Bears came out this afternoon and went 1-1, which included a 4-1 loss to Canisius followed by a 2-1 victory over host UMBC. Sophomore Stephanie Thompson carried the offense with a 3-for-5 performance from the plate, as Kate Strobel and Jen Kries each added two hits as the Bears move to 2-3-1 overall this season.

Brown Launches Home Runs for the Homeless Campaign
Providence, RI- This past fall, the Brown University softball and baseball teams began volunteering with Judy's Kindness Kitchen to help serve and prepare food for the Providence homeless. Each year approximately 3.5 million Americans experience homelessness, 1.35 million of them children; and though Rhode Island may be small, the problems its citizens face when it comes to finding safe and adequate housing are still daunting.

Brown Softball Falls to Rutgers; Ties CCSU in Second Day of Lady Pirate Classic
Hampton, VA- Two big innings for Rutgers led the Scarlet Knights to a 15-3 victory over the Brown University softball team in the first game of the second day of the Lady Pirate Classic at Hampton University. The Bears took on Central Connecticut State University in game two, but due to darkness it ended in a 2-2 tie.

Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team will once again be full of young faces, and with just one senior, four juniors and 13 underclassmen, the Bears hope to continue making strides forward in 2011 and improve on last year’s finish. Brown opens the 2011 season today, when it takes on both Hampton and Marist in the first day of the Lady Pirate Classic.

Brown Softball Team Reaches Out
Providence, RI- The Brown University Softball team has been busy with the spirit of giving this fall. The 2011 squad has been spending more time this fall assisting Ms. Marcello’s first grade class at Vartan Gregorian School in the Fox Point section of East Providence.
