Spring Academic All-Ivy Announced
Providence, RI- The Ivy League released its spring list of Academic All-Ivy honorees, with 10 Brown student-athletes being recognized. The five males and five females were starters or key reserves on their respective varsity teams and carry a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average.

Kristie Chin & Katie Rothamel Earn All-Ivy Softball Honors
Providence, RI- Junior pitcher Kristie Chin (Katy, TX) and senior shortstop Katie Rothamel (Brentwood, TN) earned Second Team All-Ivy honors after both had outstanding seasons for the Brown University softball team. The Bears finished the year 20-22 overall and earned a 7-13 mark in the Ivy League.

Bears End Season with Series Split Against Yale
New Haven, Conn. – Yale’s Katie Yanagisawa’s single in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted the Yale Bulldogs to a 5-4 victory over the Brown softball team in game one of a doubleheader this afternoon. However, the Bears fought back in game two and came out on top with a 2-0 win to end the 2010 season 20-22 overall with a 7-13 mark in the Ivy League.

Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team (19-21, 6-12 Ivy) defeated Yale (10-27, 5-13 Ivy) 6-5 in game one of the doubleheader this afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex but fell 4-2 in game two. Freshman Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) went 3-for-8 at the plate today with four RBI and two runs scored, while junior Kristie Chin went 1-1 at the mound and batted .600 with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate with a run scored and an RBI.

Chin’s Homer in Bottom of 7th Leads Brown to Split with Dartmouth
Providence, RI- Junior pitcher Kristie Chin hit a homerun in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Brown University softball team (18-20, 5-11 Ivy) to a 2-1 victory over Dartmouth (14-22, 11-4 Ivy) on Wednesday afternoon to split the series. The Bears fell 4-3 in the first game of the doubleheader today after the Big Green had a three-run fourth inning rally to take the win.

Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team (17-19, 4-10 Ivy) cruised to a 9-1 five inning victory over Bryant (7-34, 4-12 NEC) this afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex. Freshman Stephanie Thompson (Chino, CA) led the Bears at the plate today, going 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored while junior pitcher Kristie Chin (Katy, TX) earned her 11th win at the mound to move to 11-3 on the year.

Bears Defeat Dartmouth 5-4; Fall 8-0 in Game Two
Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team (16-19, 4-10 Ivy) showed its resilience in game one of the doubleheader this afternoon, as the squad clawed their way back from a 4-1 deficit third-inning deficit to a 5-4 victory. However, Bruno couldn’t hold in the second game two, falling 8-0 to the Big Green in six innings. Senior Katie Rothamel (Brentwood, TN) led the offense going 3-for-7 with a double and two runs scored. Freshman Avery Silverstein (Woodbridge, CT) followed going 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Providence, RI- The game times for tomorrow's softball doubleheader featuring Brown University and Dartmouth College has been moved earlier to try and beat the rain scheduled for the next few days. Instead of the game beginning at 12:30 p.m. on the Brown softball field at the Erickson Athletic Complex, it will now start at 10:00 a.m.

Harvard Takes Doubleheader From Brown Behind Strong Pitching
Cambridge, MA – Harvard used a pair of strong pitching performances to sweep a doubleheader with Brown on Monday afternoon, winning three of four against the Bears on the weekend after 4-2 and 2-0 victories. Kristie Chin and Liz DiMascio each turned in strong starts for Bruno, combining to allow just six runs in 10.1 innings.

Brown Softball Splits with Harvard
Cambridge, MA- Sophomore Sandra Mastrangelo hit an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to lead the Brown University softball team to a 1-0 victory over Harvard in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Bears couldn’t hang on in game two, and fell 4-1 after Harvard’s Jessica Ferri hit a three RBI double in the bottom of the sixth to earn a 4-1 victory.

Off the Field with Sophomore Sandra Mastrangelo
Sophomore outfielder Sandra Mastrangelo has had a solid 2010 softball season for the Bears and has helped the squad to a 14-15 overall record and a 2-6 mark in Ivy League play. Mastrangelo has tallied 16 hits, 16 runs scored and six RBI while her on base percentage of .337 ranks fifth on the team. Mastrangelo took a few minutes to answer some questions regarding the season thus far.

Bears Earn Split vs. Providence College Friars
Providence, RI- Senior Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) went 3-for-6 from the plate with one homerun and five RBI to help lead the Brown University softball team (14-15, 2-6 Ivy) to a split against the visiting Providence College Friars on Wednesday afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex. Asay's walk-off grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning helped Brown secure an 11-3 victory in game one, but then the Bears fell 4-0 to the feisty Friars in game two.

Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team (13-14, 2-6 Ivy) dropped two games to the Cornell University Big Red on Sunday afternoon at the Erickson Athletic Complex. The Big Red cruised to an 8-0 six-inning victory in game one, and then defeated Brown 15-4 in five innings in the second game of the double header.

Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team (13-12, 2-4 Ivy) had a big five-run first inning to defeat Princeton (7-23, 1-5 Ivy) University 5-0 in game, but lost 6-5 in game two at the Erickson Athletic Complex on Saturday afternoon. Senior shortstop Katie Rothamel (Brentwood, TN) led the Bears on offense going 5-for-8 at the plate with three RBI and one run scored, while both Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) and Kate Strobel (Denver, CO) tallied homeruns during the games today.

Philadelphia, PA- The Brown University softball team lost its first two Ivy League games this afternoon to the University of Pennsylvania. The Quakers defeated Brown 6-2 after a grand slam in the bottom of the seventh, and followed it up with a 5-0 win in game two.

Providence, RI- Brown University junior pitcher Kristie Chin (Katy, TX) has had a great start to the 2010 softball season. She has been outstanding at the mound so far as she has a perfect 5-0 record and has helped lead Brown to its 11-6 record. Chin’s 0.47 earned run average leads the Ivy League, and she has allowed just two earned runs in 30 innings pitched. Chin also ranks first in opposing batting average in the league (.139), first in runs allowed (8), first in hits allowed (14) and second in wins (5).

Off the Field with Senior Katie Rothamel
Providence, RI- Senior shortstop Katie Rothamel (Brentwood, TN) got off to a great start for the Brown University softball team. A team captain, Rothamel helped lead the Bears to the championship game of the UMBC Retriever Classic last weekend. She started in all four games helping Brown to a 2-2 record, while batting .333. Rothamel was 5-of-15 at the plate, which included three doubles, and scored five runs and tallied two RBI.

Baltimore, MD- The Brown University softball team (2-2) was defeated twice by host University of Maryland-Baltimore County at the UMBC Retriever Classic this afternoon. The Bears fell 4-2 in game one, and followed it up with a 6-5 loss to the Retrievers during the championship game. Sophomore Kate Strobel led the offense with three hits, including a homerun, three RBI and two runs scored in seven at bats, and rookie Stephanie Thompson had three hits and two RBI in seven at bats.

The Bears defeated Morgan State 9-8 in 11 innings and then went on to defeat Fairleigh Dickinson 7-5. Senior catcher Amanda Asay (Prince George, BC) batted .667 in the two wins, and led the Bears with four hits, including a double and two RBI.

With just two days to go before the Brown softball season opener at the UMBC Retriever Classic, senior outfielder Andrea Browne talks about the team, preseason, and the upcoming games. Last season, Browne played and started in 36 games for the Bears in left field. Browne batted .228 for the year on 23 hits, including six doubles, and also combined for eight RBI.

The 2010 edition of the Brown softball team is ready to embark on a new season. Featuring just three seniors and the addition of nine newcomers to the roster, Head Coach Dee Dee Enabenter-Omidiji is expecting her four captains; seniors Amanda Asay, Katie Rothamel, Andrea Browne and junior Danielle Comissiong to lead the team both on and off the field this season.

Brown Softball Participates in Dash for Diabetes
Providence, RI- The Brown University softball team recently participated in Dash for Diabetes and helped raise $2,500 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The one-mile race was located around the Brown University campus as the course traversed a continuous, gradual downhill slope to allow runners to attain record times for a distance of one mile.

Softball Earns NFCA Honors for Academic Excellence
Providence, RI- The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) recently announced the girls got game Top Ten All-Academic Teams, based on GPAs submitted for the 2008-09 school year. Through this program, the NFCA honors high school and collegiate softball teams for their success in the classroom. The Bears ranked eighth out of the 10 schools honored with a 3.462.

Michelle Moses ’09 Wins Gold at Maccabiah Games
Israel- Former Brown University softball pitcher Michelle Moses (Cooper City, FL) and incoming freshman Maddi Tropp-Bluestone (Northbrook, IL) recently arrived back in the United States after competing for the US at the 18th Maccabiah Games. The two helped guide USA to a gold medal with an outstanding 8-0 record on the week.
