Brown senior co-captain Kerrilynn Carney (North Smithfield, RI) has been named CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District in women's soccer. A defender, Carney was named to the Second Team, after earning First Team honors a year ago. The team is selected by voting members of the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).
A Neuroscience concentrator with a 3.73 GPA, Carney has played in all 49 games over the past three seasons, earning 48 starts. This season, Carney has posted five points (1g, 3a), including scoring the game-winning goal with 18 seconds left in the second overtime in Brown's 1-0 upset over Penn. Defensively, Carney has helped to anchor a backfield that has posted six shutouts, including three in a row and four in the past five games.
After making the team as a walk-on in 2004, Carney has been a vital part of the defense since the 2005 season. During the past three years, Brown has posted 14 shutouts, while earning a team goals against average of just 1.23.
Currently in a three-way tie for third place in the Ivy League (with Yale and Harvard), Brown returns to action this weekend when it travels to New Haven to face the Bulldogs in a pivotal Ivy match. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m.
