Cunningham, Hogue, and Mize Named 2008 Captains
Feb. 12, 2008
PROVIDENCE, RI - Brown women's soccer head coach Phil Pincince has announced captains for the 2008 season in a vote by members of the team. Rising seniors Lindsay Cunningham (Cumberland, RI) and Jamie Mize (Washington, DC), and rising junior Brenna Hogue (Concord, CA) were selected by their peers.
A three-time All-Ivy selection, Cunningham made an immediate impact as a freshman in 2005 and has played in 50 of 51 games over the past three seasons, missing one due to injury. A Second Team All-Ivy honoree in 2007 after two straight Honorable Mention selections, Cunningham has been one of the Bears' top scorers in each of her three seasons and will enter the 2008 campaign already ranked in Brown's all-time top 20 for both career points (18th with 38) and assists (13th with 12).
Mize came into her own this past season, playing in all 17 games and earning 12 starts, after playing in just 17 games during the previous two years. Mize appeared in 15 games as a freshman, but was hampered by an injury for most of last season and played in just two games. In 2007, she became one of the Bears' top offensive threats along with Cunningham and finished leading the team in scoring with eight points and sharing the team lead with three goals, including the game-winner in Brown's 1-0 victory over Harvard.
The Bears' starting goalie as a freshman in 2006, Hogue suffered a season-ending injury in the 2007 pre-season and missed the entire year due to the injury. Despite not playing in a single game, Hogue was a steady leader, not only with the goalies, but also with the rest of the team. As a freshman, Hogue played in all but 6:32 of the season, starting all 17 games, while posting a 1.18 GAA and a .753 save percentage to go along with four shutouts and a 9-4-4 record.
The Bears will open their 2008 spring season in February. Brown's 2008 season-opener is slated for Friday, September 5, at Boston College.
