Oct. 27, 2001

PROVIDENCE, RI - The Pennsylvania Quakers (11-1-2, 4-1) tallied two unanswered goals in the second half en route to a 3-0 victory over Brown (3-8-1, 0-4-1) in an Ivy League contest Saturday night at Stevenson Field.

Just 13 minutes into the contest, freshman Rachelle Snyder scored what proved to be the game-winning goal when she pulled senior Mary Jo Markle (West Chester, PA) out of the cage and lofted the ball over her head and into the back of the net.

Penn took a 1-0 lead into the second half and added two more goals in a span of 26 minutes for the 3-0 score. Sophomore Heather Issing and freshman Katy Cross tallied at 52:23 and 78:06 respectively and the Quakers never looked back.

Markle and sophomore Sarah Gervais split time in net for Brown with Gervais stopping three shots, while Penn sophomore Vanessa Scotto made six saves for the Quakers.

Brown head coach Phil Pincince was honored in a half time ceremony for his 25 years as the head coach of Brown women's soccer. The Bears will continue action on Wednesday, October 31, when they travel to Boston College for a Northeast Regional soccer contest that begins at 2:00 p.m.
