ITHACA, NY - The Brown University (9-3-2, 3-2) women's soccer team earned a 3-2 overtime victory at Cornell (7-4-2, 1-3-1) on Saturday afternoon in an Ivy League contest. Freshman Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) led the Bears to the win, their second straight, with all three goals.
Moos found the back of the net on a cross from senior Michaela Sewall (Newton, MA) just 50 seconds into overtime for the win.
The Big Red jumped out to a quick lead, at 16:40. However, Moos answered the Big Red's charge with a goal for Brown, scoring less then ten minutes later at 27:32 on a cross from senior Julie Herrold (La Crescenta, CA) that curved around the Big Red's defenders and found the back of the net.
Moos again had the open net, but Cornell's goalie made a diving grab to keep the contest tied at 1-1. But later in the first half, Moos netted an unassisted goal at 36:30 from 30 yards out that gave Brown a 2-1 lead at halftime.
Cornell came out of the gates quick, tying the contest at 2-2 less than 10 minutes into the second half, which is how the score remained until the end of regulation.
Less than a minute into overtime Moos scored on a cross from sophomore Meghan Schreck (Hudson, MA) that gave the Bears a 3-2 victory over the Big Red. Sewall also earned an assist on the goal. With 13 career assists, she now ranks ninth all-time at Brown in career assists.
Senior goalie Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) made two saves in the win.
Brown continues action on Wednesday, October 29, when it travels to Boston College for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
