ITHACA, NY - Freshman Sylvia Stone (Bronx, NY) scored the first two goals of her career, including the game-winner, while junior Lindsay Cunningham (Cumberland, RI) posted two assists to lead the Bears' attack in a 4-0 victory over Cornell (4-9-0, 0-4-0) on Sunday afternoon at Berman Field. Brown (4-8-1, 2-2-0) exploded for three goals in the second half, while scoring a season-high four goals in the victory.
Despite getting outshot, 9-6, in the first half, Brown held onto a 1-0 lead after the first 45 minutes after Stone scored her first career goal at 30:07. Cunningham earned her first of two assists on the goal, feeding the ball to Stone from the right side.
After the break, the Bears increased their lead to 2-0 just 5:02 into the second half when junior Jamie Mize (Washington, DC) collected the ball from senior Kerrilynn Carney (North Smithfield, RI) and deposited it into the net, scoring her team-leading third goal of the year.
Senior Susie Keller (Cincinnati, OH), who earned her first point of the year with the second assist on Stone's first goal, gave Brown a 3-0 lead 13 minutes later. Sophomore Melissa Kim (Bethesda, MD) found Cunningham on a Bears' throw-in and Cunningham served the ball to Keller, who beat Jodi Palmer for her first goal of the season.
Stone put the game away with her second of the afternoon, scoring off a corner kick taken by junior Julie Wu (Tiburon, CA) with 3:59 remaining.
Brown finished with a 14-12 advantage in shots and a 7-5 lead in in corner kicks. Sophomore Steffi Yellin (Savannah, GA) picked up her fourth shutout of the season with five saves.
The Bears return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Sacred Heart at 7:00 p.m. in their final non-league game of the year. Game video and audio will be streamed live over the internet.
