Women's Soccer Defeats Holy Cross, 1-0, in Overtime

WORCESTER, MA - Senior Allyson Schwerdt (Setauket, NY) scored the game-winning goal just two minutes into the first overtime period to lift Brown (3-7) to a 1-0 victory over Holy Cross (4-6-2) in a Northeast Regional women's soccer contest at Hart Field on Wednesday afternoon.
After 90 minutes of scoreless action, the game heading into sudden death overtime, similar to last season's showdown with the Crusaders in Providence. However, unlike last year's game which took nearly two overtime periods before Brown knocked in the winning goal, this time, the Bears finished just two minutes into the first overtime.
Senior leading scorer, Kim Lanzire (Bristol, RI) served a pass to Schwerdt in the box who fired the ball past Holy Cross' Christine Arsenault on her only shot of the game.
Senior goalkeeper Mary Jo Markle (West Chester, PA) played the entire game in net for Brown and made one save, earning her first career shutout.
The Bears will continue action on Saturday, October 20, when they travel to Cornell for a key Ivy League contest that begins at 12:00 noon.
