PROVIDENCE, RI - Sophomore Theresa Sherry (Baltimore, MD) scored back-to-back goals in a span of 5:04 to lead Princeton (7-1-1, 3-0) to a 4-1 victory over host Brown (2-7, 0-3) in an Ivy League women's soccer contest on Sunday evening played in a steady mist.
After nearly an entire half of scoreless action and dominantly midfield play, Princeton took a 1-0 lead when the ball took a bad bounce off of a Brown defender's head and bounced into the back corner of the net. This would be the only goal senior Mary Jo Markle (West Chester, PA) would allow, as she made five saves in net for the Bears during the first half.
The Bears dominated the majority of the second half and took advantage of back-to-back corner kicks in the 70th minute to knot the game at one and end a scoreless streak that had lasted nearly 365 minutes. Sophomore Molly Cahan (Encino, CA) got the ball from a Kristin Ferrell (Concord, MA) corner kick and passed it to freshman Kim Hagner (San Francisco, CA), who fired the ball past Princeton's Catherine Glenn (Jacksonville, MD) for her first career goal with 20:43 remaining.
No sooner had Brown tied the game than Sherry started a span of three unanswered Princeton goals less than 24 seconds later. Her first goal came at 69:41, her second at 74:45 and freshman Rochelle Willis (Unionville, ONT) tallied the 4th and final Tiger goal at 79:06.
Sophomore Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) made two saves in the second half for a total of seven Brown saves, while Glenn made one save in 82:57 for Princeton before giving way to sophomore Jean Poster.
The Bears continue action on Wednesday, October 17, when they travel to Holy Cross for a 3:00 p.m. game.
