Bears Drop Third Straight Game, 1-0 at Army
Oct. 2, 2005
WEST POINT, NY - Army (7-4) scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal just 2:01 into the second half, and the Bears could not net the equalizer, as the Brown women's soccer team (4-7) dropped its third straight game in a 1-0 loss to the Black Knights on Sunday afternoon at Clinton Field. Army is ranked 15th and Brown is 11th in the latest NSCAA Northeast Region standings.
While Army held a slim 14-13 shot advantage, Brown won the corner kick battle 8-3 following a 5-1 first half advantage.
Junior Kathleen Waddell (Minnetonka, MN) registered a game-high five shots, two coming in the first half and three in the second. In goal, senior Hilary Wilson (Monterey, CA) recorded four of her five saves in the second half as five of Army's eight shots in that period were on goal.
Brown had three great scoring chances, but the Army keeper stopped all of them to precerve the win for the Black Knights. Junior Mica Bayard (Princeton, MA) fired a long, hard shot on net just before halftime, while freshman Lindsay Cunningham (Cumberland, RI) fired a shot on net in the 79th minute. Senior Meghan Schreck (Hudson, MA) was also denied on a scoring attempt in the 89th minute.
Wilson did not allow Army to notch the insurance goal, stopping the Black Knights' scoring leader Delaney Brown twice over the final five minutes.
The loss is the seventh one-goal loss of the season for Brown, including five 1-0 decisions. The Bears will look to rebound this Saturday, October 8, when they host Princeton at 7:00 p.m., in search of their first Ivy win.
