Hanover, NH - The Brown women's soccer team (4-3-2, 0-1-0) battled Dartmouth in the 2006 Ivy opener for both squads on Sunday afternoon, but fell to the Big Green, 1-0, in a match that could have gone either way.
Dartmouth scored the only goal in dramatic fashion with just over five minutes remaining in the contest, as Whitney Douthett headed the ball into the back of the net after a Big Green free kick from 30 yards out.
After inclement weather delayed the start of the contest, both teams started off slowly, battling in the midfield with each change of possession. Despite several good chances, both teams struggled to place the ball well on crosses. Brown held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks but was unable to convert.
The Bears had a big opportunity at 69:50 with a scramble in front of the Big Green goal, but a Dartmouth defender slid across the box to block to ball, saving a goal.
In net for Brown, freshman Brenna Hogue (Concord, CA) recorded six saves. The Bears will look to rebound on Friday night, September 29th, when they host Columbia at 7:00 p.m.
