NEWTON, MA - The Brown women's soccer team (3-1-2) upset 13th-ranked Boston College (4-2), the top-ranked team in the Northeast Region, on Friday evening, earning a 2-1 victory over the Eagles. Brown's victory snapped BC's four-game winning streak and also helped the Bears remain unbeaten against ranked teams after tying #23 Boston University, 0-0, on September 5th.
Brown wasted little time in taking a 1-0 lead, scoring just seven minutes into the game, and adding a second goal before the 15-minute mark.
Junior Kerrilynn Carney (North Smithfield, RI) gave the Bears the early lead, heading in a corner kick from sophomore Julie Wu (Tiburon, CA). Just five minutes later, at exactly 12:00, senior leading scorer Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) scored what would prove to be the game-winner when she slotted the ball into the back of the net off a feed from freshman Melissa Kim (Bethesda, MD). It was the second straight game in which Moos has scored.
Boston College came to within 2-1 with a goal late in the first half, but freshman Brenna Hogue (Concord, CA) made two second-half saves and a total of three in the game, to pick up her third win of the season.
The Bears return to action on Sunday afternoon, September 17, when they host Sacred Heart in a 2:00 p.m. contest at Stevenson Field.
