HARWICH, MA -- The women's soccer team (2-1-2) faught back from a 3-0 deficit to Georgetown (1-5),but couldn't net the equalizer, falling to the Hoyas, 3-2, in the final match-up of the ECAC Women's Soccer Classic held on Cape Cod.
The Hoyas started the scoring right away, taking a 1-0 lead just 3:19 into the game with a free kick, after a Brown foul. Georgetown added one more before intermission and then their its third of the game just 3:20 into the second half before Brown was able to get on the board.
The Bears mounted a comeback late in the second half with two very similar goals. Sophomore Tory Manchester (Costa Mesa, CA) knocked in a header at 64:33 from junior Michelle Sriwongtong's (Rosemead, CA) kick near the corner of the field caused by a foul. The play was repeated just under 20 minutes later when senior Michaela Sewall (Newton, MA) headed the ball into the net from senior Amy Baumann's (Wyncote, PA) kick at 25 yards out, caused by a Georgetown foul.
Senior Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) played strong in net, making 12 saves in the loss.
Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce Players of the Game were announced following the competition with Manchester taking home the honors for Brown. The Bears continue action on Wednesday, September 17,when they host Northeastern at 7:00 p.m.
