HARWICH, MA - Brown University (1-1-1) exploded for three goals in the first half en route to a 5-0 victory over Fairfield (1-3-0) in a Northeast regional women's soccer contest on day one of the ECAC Tournament held at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School on Friday afternoon.
Senior Caitlin Carey (Boxford, MA) opened the scoring for the Bears at the 19:00 mark of the first half, and Brown never looked back. Junior Molly Cahan (Encino, CA) earned her first point of the season with an assist on the goal.
Junior Michaela Sewall (Newton, MA) notched her second point in as many games and her first career goal when she converted a pass from senior Laura Iden (Kenilworth, NJ) at the 35:23 mark to increase Brown's lead to 2-0. Just over five minutes later, at 40:58, Iden added another goal for Brown on a pass from freshman Kim LaVere (Chatsworth, CA) to give Brown a 3-0 lead heading into halftime.
The scoring burst did not stop then as senior Amy Albro (Seattle, WA) netted her first goal of the season at 64:39, extending Brown's lead to 4-0. Freshman Meaghan Schreck (Hudson, MA) capped the scoring with her first collegiate goal at 74:09, while Sewall earned the assist finishing off a 1-1-3 night.
Junior Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) stopped three shots in 60:13, while sophomore Kim Boortz (Corona Del Mar, CA), who was making her first career appearance for the Bears, made four saves in 29:47, as the duo combined for Brown's first shutout of the year. Junior Kristin Ferrell (Concord, MA) was named one of the ECAC Hy-line Cruises Players of the Game. Brown continues action at the ECAC Tournament on Sunday afternoon when the Bears face Colgate at 2:00 p.m.
