Women's Soccer Defeats Loyola-Chicago, 2-1
Sept. 12, 2003
HARWICH, MA - Brown University (2-0-2) came back from a 1-0 deficit to defeat Loyola-Chicago (3-2), 2-1, in a women's soccer contest on the first day of the ECAC Tournament held at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School on Friday afternoon.
The Ramblers took a 1-0 lead at 20:09 of the first half, ending Brown's shutout streak at 330:09, spanning over just over three games.
With time ticking down in the second half, the Bears kept fighting and were not to be outdone. Senior Kristin Ferrell (Concord, MA) got Brown on the board with her first goal of the season, knotting the contest at 1-1 with 17:32 remaining in the game. She received a pass from junior Michelle Sriwongtong (Rosemead, CA) at midfield and dribbled down the left wing, scoring with a low shot to the near post.
Ferrell, who earned ECAC Player of the Game recognition for her efforts, netted the game-winning goal just 12 minutes later. This time, she collected the ball from classmate Julie Herrold (La Crecenta, CA), who was on the right wing, and dribbled in placing the ball in the right corner of the net.
With the help of the entire defense, senior Sarah Gervais (Harrisville, RI) shut down the Loyola Chicago offense for the remainder of the game, including two key saves to prevent the Ramblers from netting the tying goal. Gervais finished with five saves in net, earning her second win of the year. The Bears continue action on Sunday afternoon when they face Georgetown in their final game of the ECAC Classic. Earlier today, the Hoyas were defeated by Yale, 2-0.
