CHESTNUT HILL, MA - The Brown women's soccer team (2-0-1) battled #24 Boston University (2-1-1), which is ranked fourth in the Northeast region, to a 0-0 double overtime tie on Tuesday evening. With the tie, the Bears remain undefeated through their first three games this year, while posting their second consecutive shutout.
The two teams played an even first half of the game, with each team taking two shots through the first 45:00. However, the Bears dominated the Terriers during the final 45:00 of regulation, but couldn't find the back of the net thanks in part to four second-half saves by the BU keeper.
BU had the only shot in the first overtime, but it never found the net as the two teams headed into the second and final 10:00 extra period.
This one was controlled by Brown, which outshot BU 2-0 during the second half of overtime. The Bears had their best chance just 3:00 into the frame when sophomore Lindsay Cunningham's (Cumberland, RI) shot eluded the BU keeper, but the goal was disallowed due to an offsides call on the Bears.
Brown outshot BU 10-6 with a 6-2 advantage in shots on goal. Cunningham paced Brown with three shots, while senior Kathryn Moos (Wayzata, MN) recorded two shots.
Freshman goalie Brenna Hogue (Concord, CA), who has not allowed a goal in nearly 267 minutes, recorded her second straight shutout with two saves on the night. The Bears return home to Stevenson Field this weekend to host the Brown Classic. Bruno will face Marist on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. and Minnesota on Sunday, September 10, at 12:00 noon.
