Providence, R.I. - Penn's goal in the first two minutes of the game proved to be enough as the Quakers held on for a 1-0 women's soccer victory over Brown at Stevenson Field. Brown falls to 8-6-1 overall, 3-2-1 in the Ivy League, while Penn extends its record to 11-1-4 overall, 4-2-1 in Ivy play.
Penn didn't wait long to get on the scoreboard when Hayley Cooper headed in a cross from Brianna Rano into the goal on an indirect kick just 1:41 into the game.
Penn challenged once again in the 30th minute, but Bears' senior goalie Amber Bledsoe (Cincinnati, OH) made a diving stop to stymie a shot by Quakers' midfielder Brianna Rano.
Bears' senior goalie MC Barrett (Ithaca, NY) made a spectacular save in the 53rd minute, stopping Penn's Elissa Berdini at point blank range to keep the Bears in the game. Barrett made another stop diving to her right in the 62nd minute, getting her right hand on the ball with a diving stop.
Brown had a great opportunity late in the game when freshman Sydney Calas (Bethesda, MD) was able to get off a quick shot for the Bears with 4:34 remaining in the game, but was denied by Penn goalie Kalijah Terilli on a diving save.
The Quakers out-shot the Bears by a 15-7 margin. Bledsoe and Barrett combined for five saves for the Bears, while Terilli registered three saves in net for the Quakers.
Brown will be on the road for its final Ivy League game on Friday, November 8 against Yale in New Haven, Connecticut, starting at 7 pm. The Bears then return home for a Senior Day non-league match-up against Yale at Stevenson Field on Sunday, November 11 at 1 pm, with eight Brown seniors being honored in pre-game ceremonies.
