Coach Chartier was a valued member of the Brown community for more than 15 years as an assistant women's soccer coach. After 13 years on the coaching staff, Chartier moved to a head coaching position at Rhode Island College, where he led the Anchorwomen to a berth in the ECAC New England Division III Women's Soccer Tournament for the first time in the program's 11-year history after posting a school-record 14 wins. He returned to Brown in the fall of 2008 as a full time assistant coach.
During his first stint at Brown, from 1989-2001, Chartier was a part of four Ivy League Championships. Recognized as an outstanding teacher, he was also the head coach of the RI-USA Strikers from 2001-2003 and an assistant coach with the Rhode Island United U-12 team in 1995. Most recently, Chartier was also head coach of the U-13 New England Wave.
Denis will be remembered for his commitment to coaching and for his many contributions to soccer, athletics, and campus life. Brown athletics extends its deepest condolences to Denis's wife and family, and the many people whose lives he touched.
