PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown freshman women's soccer midfielder Louisa Pitney (Washington, DC) has been named Ivy League Rookie of the Week, marking the second straight week that Brown has earned a Rookie of the Week. Pitney was instrumental in helping to lead Brown to a 1-0-1 week, as the Bears defeated Army, 2-1, in overtime, and played Sacred Heart to a 0-0 double overtime draw.
In Wednesday's win over Army, Pitney nearly single-handedly assured Brown the victory, as the Bears snapped the Black Knights' winning streak at six games, all of which were shutouts. Brown's 2-1 win marked the first time this year that the Black Knights, who rank third in the country in GAA, have allowed more than one goal, while the game-tying goal with 52 seconds left in regulation snapped Army's shutout streak at 662 minutes.
With less than one minute remaining in regulation against the Black Knights, Pitney took the corner kick that found teammate Carly Ruiz (Costa Mesa, CA) in front of the goal, as she earned the assist on the game-tying goal with 52 seconds remaining in regulation for her first career point. Then, with just 15 seconds left in the first overtime, Pitney lifted Brown to the overtime come-from-behind win, scoring her first career goal off a pass from Gina Walker (Canyon Country, CA).
On Sunday against Sacred Heart, Pitney helped anchor the midfield as Brown earned its second shutout of the season, a 0-0 double-overtime draw. The Bears are now unbeaten in their last three games and Pitney is third on the team in points with three.
Brown returns to action on Thursday afternoon when it hosts UMass in a 4:30 p.m. contest at Stevenson Field.
