Berg Named Ivy League Co-Rookie of the Week & a Collegesoccer360.com Primetime Performer of the Week
PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown freshman women's soccer forward Kiersten Berg (Salt Lake City, UT) has been named Ivy League co-Rookie of the Week for her role in helping to lead the Bears to a 1-1 week against a pair of teams ranked in the National top-25. In addition, she was also named one of 15 collegesoccer360.com Primetime Performers of the Week.
In Saturday's 2-1 victory over #22 Monmouth, Berg contributed valuable minutes off the bench, while scoring the first two goals of her collegiate career. With just 18 seconds left in the first half, Berg broke a scoreless tie when she beat the Monmouth goalie to a loose ball on a rebound and chipped it over her head for the 1-0 Brown lead. Then, roughly 11 minutes into the second half, Berg added her second of the day, which would prove to be the game-winning goal. After collecting the ball off a pass through the middle from senior Gina Walker (Canyon Country, CA), Berg split a pair of Monmouth defenders, sprinted behind them and beat the goalie one-on-one with a shot to the right site.
For the season, Berg has earned quality minutes in each of the Bears' four games and currently ranks second on the team with four points (2g).
Brown returns to action on Wednesday night when it travels to
West Point, NY to face Army in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
